A name nobody had on the board at the Allianz Riviera
Mohamed Amoura to Nice. A week ago this was not a rumour, a whisper, or anything at all.
Foot Mercato report that Nice have spent the last few hours in talks with Wolfsburg over the 26-year-old Algeria forward. Nothing is signed. It is moving quickly enough, though, that the south coast club think they can get it done before Monday’s deadline.
They have hardly been sitting still up front either. Gautier Hein is in. Elye Wahi arrived on a paid loan with a purchase option valued at roughly 15 million euros. And they want more.
Try it for $0.99.
Wolfsburg went down. His numbers did not.
Eight goals and three assists in 33 matches, in a team that finished in the Bundesliga relegation play-off spot and then lost the tie. Wolfsburg are a second-division club now. Amoura kept scoring while the thing collapsed around him, which is worth more than the raw total suggests.
He landed in Germany in the summer of 2024, on loan from Union Saint-Gilloise, and was bought outright a year later. Forty-eight caps for the Fennecs. Top scorer in African World Cup qualifying with 10 goals.
Nice are not alone in this
Udinese had already made their approach. Marseille looked at him earlier in the summer and went no further.
The appeal is not complicated. Pace, and runs in behind. Nice leaned far too often last season on tidy, slow build-up that went nowhere, and Olivier Pantaloni would suddenly have another way to hurt teams.
Nothing is signed. Mohamed-Ali Cho has already gone to Hull City this week, Kojo Peprah Oppong to Fenerbahce, and Pantaloni had gone public with his worries about late departures. A signing of this level would turn the mood around fast.
