A two-way deal in Toronto
Six years after Vegas called his name in the first round, Brendan Brisson is on his third NHL organization.
The Toronto Maple Leafs announced the signing this morning: one year, terms undisclosed. Multiple reports put it at $850,000 at the NHL level on a two-way structure, meaning Brisson would earn a lower salary in any stretch spent with the Toronto Marlies.

Twenty-seven NHL games in six seasons
Brisson is 24. Vegas took him 29th overall in the 2020 draft, and the pick has yet to translate into a settled NHL role. He has 27 career games split between the Golden Knights and the New York Rangers, producing two goals and seven assists.
Last season told the story in miniature. Three appearances for the Rangers, one assist, then 66 games at Hartford of the American Hockey League, where he put up 19 goals and 18 assists. That works out at a point every 1.8 games in the AHL, the kind of return that usually earns a longer NHL look. Converting it upward is the part that has not happened yet.
What Toronto gets
The Leafs are buying depth close to the league minimum. If Brisson forces his way into the lineup, they have a former first-rounder with genuine scoring history for the price of a fourth-line body. If he does not, the Marlies inherit a top-six forward and the cap sheet barely moves.
Toronto have spent recent summers hunting exactly this profile: young forwards whose draft pedigree outran their production somewhere else. Brisson is 24, cheap and out of excuses. That combination tends to produce one of two outcomes, and both of them arrive quickly.
