A late-night fix gets done
The Minnesota Vikings have reached an agreement with Kyle Van Noy. The 35-year-old linebacker visited the team on Tuesday and signed soon after. According to The Ringer, he will start on the practice squad while he gets back up to speed.
The timing is no accident. Tyler Batty landed on injured reserve on Sunday, two days after suffering a torn ACL in preseason against the Broncos. Minnesota needed someone who could step in straight away. Van Noy fits the bill.
Behind Dallas Turner and Andrew Van Ginkel, he will add depth to the front seven. That is exactly the job Batty was meant to fill.

Two rings and 57 sacks on the resume
The numbers speak for themselves. Two Super Bowl titles with the New England Patriots. A first Pro Bowl nod in 2024, the same season he posted 12.5 sacks, a career high.
Van Noy is coming off three years in Baltimore. The latest was quieter: 15 games, 13 starts, 20 tackles, 2 sacks and an interception.
Across his career, he has played 173 regular-season games and made 115 starts. Detroit from 2014 to 2016, New England after that, Miami in 2020, the Chargers in 2022, then the Ravens from 2023 to 2025. His career line: 561 tackles, 57 sacks, 4 interceptions, 14 forced fumbles and 10 recoveries.
What it means for Minnesota
The season is only days away. The Vikings could not afford to wait around for a project player. A veteran with 173 NFL games under his belt does not need six weeks to learn the playbook.
The bigger question is workload. At 35, and starting on the practice squad, Van Noy will first have to show he can handle the load. Minnesota is banking on experience doing the heavy lifting.
