One defensive snap and everything changes
Bud Clark is set to miss several months. The rookie safety for the Seattle Seahawks has a fractured right ankle. The injury came Sunday night in Nashville during a 19-16 preseason loss to the Tennessee Titans.
Clark was hurt on Seattle’s very first defensive snap. He left the field in a cart, his leg secured in an air cast. Mike Macdonald, Seattle’s coach, confirmed the damage right after the game.
The 24-year-old was taken 64th overall in the 2026 draft, in the second round, by the reigning Super Bowl champions. He arrived from TCU, where he picked off 15 passes in 61 college games.

Three blows in one week
Clark is not the only one sidelined. Mason Richman was injured on the opening drive and will also face a lengthy spell out. The backup guard left the field unaided. At 24, the 2025 seventh-round pick out of Iowa has played just two games in his rookie season, with 11 of his 12 snaps coming on special teams.
On Friday, wide receiver Jake Bobo was already ruled out for the season after injuring his knee in a joint practice with the Titans.
“Two guys we love, who play our style of football, who are our kind of players, who their teammates love, great teammates, great guys, great football players, they’ve got a bright future,” Macdonald said. “It’s heartbreaking, honestly. We’ve had three heartbreaks this week, it’s tough.”
Secondary set for a shake-up before kickoff
Seattle heads into the season as reigning champions and with the injury list filling up before the first official game. Two long-term injuries on the first two defensive snaps of the same preseason game, then a third three days earlier in practice. Macdonald will now have to adjust without his second draft pick.
