Jacksonville plugs a glaring hole
The Jaguars moved fast. According to multiple US outlets on Wednesday, the Jacksonville franchise is landing guard Daniel Faalele from the New York Giants in exchange for a late 2027 draft pick.
The urgency tells the story. Patrick Mekari, who had been lined up at that spot, has just undergone back surgery. With the season only weeks away, leaving a gaping hole in the middle of the offensive line was never an option.

A huge frame, a solid resume
Faalele is not just a stopgap. The 26-year-old Australian played every game as a starting guard for the Baltimore Ravens over the last two seasons. In all, he has made 66 appearances and 35 starts since going in the fourth round of the 2022 draft.
His size is off the charts, even for an interior NFL lineman: 2.03m and 168kg. Very few players built like that can string together two full seasons without missing a game. He did.
After joining the Giants in April as a free agent, he found himself behind veteran Jon Runyan and Francis Mauigoa, the New York franchise’s first-round pick in 2026. New York already had its starting guard pair. Faalele had become a luxury.
What it means for Jacksonville
Protecting the quarterback is still the big job in Florida. The Jaguars get an immediate starter without burning draft capital, at a point in the year when the offensive line market is pretty much bone dry.
The one catch is timing. Faalele now has to learn a new playbook in a matter of weeks after already changing teams in April. The chemistry stuff, the combo blocks and all the rest, can be ironed out on the practice field.
