Twenty-five million a year for a third-round pick
Arizona did not wait for the market to set the price. Multiple outlets reported on Thursday that Michael Wilson has agreed to a three-year extension worth $75 million, a figure that can climb to $78 million, with $47 million guaranteed.
Wilson had a season left on the rookie contract he signed after Arizona took him in the third round of the 2023 draft out of Stanford. He is now tied to the Cardinals through 2029.
The math is worth sitting with. A third-round receiver reaching roughly $25 million per year on his second deal is not routine business. Wilson’s leverage came from a single season, and from Arizona’s read of what would happen if that season were allowed to reach free agency.

The season that earned it
Wilson’s last campaign did not start well. He finished it with 78 catches for 1,006 yards and seven touchdowns across 17 games, 13 of them starts, which means the bulk of that production arrived after the opening weeks rather than during them.
Set that against the rest of his career and the gap is stark. In 46 games and 38 starts, Wilson has 163 receptions for 2,119 yards and 14 touchdowns. Close to half his career catches and close to half his career yardage came in that one year.
A bet on the trend line
Arizona are paying for the curve rather than the average. That is the reading behind the guarantee: $47 million says the front office treats last season as the floor of what Wilson becomes, not the ceiling.
The 26-year-old now enters a contract year in reverse, with the money already banked and the expectation attached to it.
