A 94-yard answer to open the night
Florida Atlantic reached the Florida 6 on their first drive of the season. DJ Coleman intercepted an overthrown pass there, and the Gators went 94 yards the other way. Aaron Philo threw short to Vernell Brown III, who ran the rest of it. Forty-nine yards, touchdown.

Philo answers the question Sumrall asked in August
Sumrall handed the starting job to Philo in the final week of August. The Georgia Tech transfer went 16 of 21 for 275 yards and three touchdowns, threw one interception, and ran six times for 20 yards and another score. Four touchdowns accounted for in a first start.
Brown III finished with six catches for 117 yards, a career high, and a touchdown. Jadan Baugh carried 14 times for 160 yards and scored three times on the ground. Duke Clark ran for 65 yards and a score of his own, then caught a 10-yard pass from Philo with 4:21 left in the third quarter to push it to 52-14.
Twenty-eight unanswered after FAU got close
The Owls were not far off at one stage. Caden Veltkamp ran in from seven yards with 6:50 left in the second quarter and cut the deficit to 24-14. Florida then scored 28 points without reply and the evening was over.
Baugh started that run from 12 yards to make it 31-14. Dijon Johnson picked off Veltkamp at the FAU 30. Three plays later Baugh scored again from seven.
FAU led the country in passing yards per game last season, and Veltkamp threw 52 times here for 276 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. Kelby Valsin caught ten of those passes for 92 yards and scored from 20 yards in the fourth quarter, by which point the number mattered to nobody in the stadium.
Florida move to 1-0 and stay unbeaten against Florida Atlantic at 5-0 all time. The Owls open at 0-1.
