The main voting numbers
The NBA has released the results for the 2026 MVP award. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander takes the honour. Shai finished with 939 points. The voting panel consisted of 100 voters. The official document lists 83 first-place votes for the Canadian guard.
Those numbers are up on last year. Shai finished with 913 points and 71 first-place votes last season. That means he lands a second straight trophy. The league record books now show 14 players who have pulled that off. The list includes names like Michael Jordan, LeBron James, Stephen Curry and Steve Nash.
The full standings
Nikola Jokic is second in the rankings. The centre picked up 634 points. The report shows 10 first-place votes. Victor Wembanyama ends up third. His statistical line shows 569 points. Five voters put him first. He is the first French-born player to reach this level in the standings.
The rest of the board features a few more familiar names. Luka Doncic finishes fourth with 250 points. Cade Cunningham claims fifth with 117 points. Two votes put him top. Elsewhere, Jaylen Brown gets 89 points. Kawhi Leonard and Donovan Mitchell receive one point apiece.

The numbers and whats next
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is averaging 30 points a game. He is shooting 55 % from the field. The league office says there has never been a player at his position putting up numbers like that. He also won the 2026 Clutch Player of the Year award.
