Purple, black and a relocated swoosh
Nike put a model on a runway overnight wearing a No. 77 Luka Doncic shirt, and the Lakers had a new uniform.
The Specter Edition jersey runs purple into black across the body. Yellow picks out the Lakers wordmark on the chest, the outlines of the numbers and the trim. A blue and white stripe sits near the front shoulders, a nod to the blue and gold the franchise wore before purple took over.
The detail that drew the most attention sits in the middle of the chest. Nike lifted its swoosh off the right shoulder, where it has lived since the brand took over the league’s uniform deal, and parked it front and centre.

A league-wide rollout
The NBA confirmed on Wednesday that it is issuing a Standard Issue Collection for every team alongside the Specter Edition uniforms, which the league says allow franchises to “trace their roots back to the earliest chapters of the league”.
Los Angeles will not wear it alone. Sacramento, Detroit, Atlanta, Golden State, New York, Philadelphia and Boston are all down for Specter kits next season.
Ross Klein, creative director for Nike Basketball, pitched the launch around identity rather than heritage. The collection celebrates “the attitude, creativity and individuality of today’s hoopers”, he said, “combining bold team identity and modern style so fans can show their connection to the game in their own way”.
Why the league keeps redrawing its shirts
Michael Brady, who runs merchandise partnerships for the NBA, called the range “the next evolution of our partnership with Nike, redefining how team identity and basketball culture are expressed across the league”.
Alternate uniforms stopped being a novelty a long time ago. The league has cycled through City, Statement, Classic and Earned editions since Nike replaced Adidas as its outfitter, and every fresh drop resets the merchandise shelf. Los Angeles, with Doncic’s number now the one moving stock in California, sits at the front of that queue.
Whether the swoosh stays in the middle of the chest beyond this collection is a separate question. Nobody at Nike offered an answer.
