At 53, Frank Vogel brings a serious NBA resume to the table. He has coached the Pacers, Magic, Lakers and Suns as a head coach, but he is still best known for leading Los Angeles to the title in the Orlando bubble in 2020.
After a season on the Dallas Mavericks coaching staff, he now heads to Golden State to take over as Steve Kerr’s No. 1 assistant. He replaces Terry Stotts, who left in the offseason, while Jerry Stackhouse has also moved on from the organisation.
His main job will be to sort out the Warriors’ defence, once the backbone of the franchise but far less reliable in recent seasons.

Beyond the tactical fit, the appointment also adds fuel to the LeBron James talk. The pair have a strong relationship from their time together with the Lakers, which ended with an NBA title.

The Warriors have kept moving pieces around in an effort to stay appealing, and Vogel’s presence could become another card to play if the situation starts to heat up.
