NBA Finals : OG Anunoby at the death, Knicks one win from the title

NBA Finals : OG Anunoby, New York Knicks hero

We all thought the Spurs were on their way to levelling this NBA Finals series. Up by 29 at the break, San Antonio had the game in complete control. But the Knicks pulled off the unthinkable. Backed by a roaring Madison Square Garden, New York clawed all the way back to steal a 107 to 106 win. In a wild finish, OG Anunoby arrived at the perfect moment to tip in the decisive basket with one second left on the clock.

That win gives the Knicks a 3-1 lead in the series and moves them within touching distance of a first NBA title since 1973.

OG Anunoby and Brunson haul New York back in

Carried on by their crowd, the Knicks chipped away at the deficit. Jalen Brunson took control on offense while OG Anunoby kept making big plays at both ends. Minute by minute, the Spurs’ lead disappeared. San Antonio lost its touch, then its composure. With four minutes left, the gap was down to a few possessions and the Garden was believing again.

The closing stages then shifted up a gear. Brunson dragged his side level with a string of clutch baskets before putting the Knicks ahead with a little over a minute to go. The Spurs briefly snatched the lead back seconds later, but the final sequence belonged to the home side. On the last possession, Brunson missed from outside. Anunoby tracked the play and hammered home the tip-in with one second left. The building erupted.

The Texas group finally cracks

Even in defeat, Victor Wembanyama showed up. He had 13 points in the first quarter before adding just 11 across the final three. The French star made his presence felt in the paint and helped San Antonio stay in charge for long stretches. But as happened in the fourth quarter, the Texas offense simply froze at the worst possible moment. The Spurs scored 76 points before halftime, then only 30 after the break. A collapse like that could prove very costly in this series.

For the Knicks, Jalen Brunson finished with 36 points while OG Anunoby delivered his best game of these Finals with 33 points, seven made threes and, crucially, the winner that will almost certainly live long in Knicks and NBA memory, whatever happens next in this series.

New York now leads three games to one and is one win away from its first NBA title since 1973. Game 5 in San Antonio could already be the last one.
