MLB: Naylor sends Seattle to victory in the 10th

A long night in Seattle

Josh Naylor finished it. One swing, one sharp single to centre with the bases loaded in the 10th inning. The Seattle Mariners beat the Houston Astros 6-5 on Wednesday night after a wild, back-and-forth contest.

Dominic Canzone was also right in the thick of it, driving in three of Seattle’s runs. On the other side, Yainer Diaz had dragged Houston back in front in the 10th with a triple, after already launching a two-run homer earlier in the night.

A game that kept flipping

Houston had looked in control by the third inning, putting up four runs against Seattle starter George Kirby. Nick Allen, Jose Altuve and Yordan Alvarez kept the line moving before Diaz capped the rally with his first homer of the night to make it 4-0.

Seattle hit back straight away, scoring three times at the end of that same inning to make it 4-3, then tied it in the fifth when Randy Arozarena stole a base and later scored on a Canzone single.

Hader unravels at the death

In the end, it was Astros closer Josh Hader who blinked when it mattered most. Sent out for the 10th, he walked Arozarena before loading the bases with a pair of further mistakes. Naylor needed just one pitch to end it and send Seattle home happy.
