MLS: Nashville need only a draw at Cincinnati to own the record

A record with nothing else at stake

Nashville have nothing to play for in the table. They clinched the Supporters’ Shield two weeks ago. What is left is history. On Saturday, in the regular-season finale at FC Cincinnati, a draw would be enough to break the MLS single-season points record.

Nashville sit on 74 points at 22-3-8, which ties the mark set by Inter Miami in 2024. Coach B.J. Callaghan said his players show up every day with one focus, which is to win as many games as they can, and midfielder Hany Mukhtar said the group wants to be the standard of the league.

Cincinnati still have a seed to chase

The hosts are not just a backdrop. Cincinnati are seventh in the East on 46 points at 12-11-10, and their position can still move. A win plus a Philadelphia loss or draw lifts them to sixth. A loss combined with a Columbus win drops them to eighth and into the wild-card round against Orlando.

They arrive in decent form, 3-0-1 in their last four. Evander has dealt with an illness that cost him training time and limited his minutes recently, but with a full week between games he should be at full speed, and he says Cincinnati want to show they are a playoff team.

Two of the league’s best attacks

This pairs two of the four highest-scoring teams in MLS. Nashville have scored 69 goals in 33 matches, third in the league, and Cincinnati have 67. The teams met on August 29 in Nashville and Nashville won that one 4-0, with four different scorers.
