Two games, no points, bottom
Two matches. Two defeats. Bottom of Ligue 2.
FC Nantes have made a dreadful start to life back in the second tier. Beaten at home by Red Star in their opener (0-1), then beaten again at Laval (2-1). No other team in the division is still pointless.
And yet the Canaris have just come off 13 straight seasons in Ligue 1. The drop has been brutal, and the bounce-back they wanted has not arrived.

The football is worrying more than the results
Two games is nothing. Unless the football already looks like last season all over again.
Against Laval, Nantes showed glaring collective weaknesses. Several individual mistakes cost them goals, directly and cheaply. Michel Der Zakarian himself spoke of a “monumental error” that killed his side in the closing minutes.
New staff, new coach, rebuilt squad. The problems? They have not moved an inch.
Kombouare, the name that keeps coming up
According to Foot Mercato, Nantes’ hierarchy are considering parting ways with Der Zakarian if they can bring Antoine Kombouare back. A familiar face, well known and respected at La Beaujoire.
The snag is the man himself. The 62-year-old, who chose not to extend his stay at Paris FC last season, is thought to be leaning towards taking a break rather than jumping straight back into another project.
Nothing is settled. Der Zakarian’s fate may well depend on the answer from a man who might not be in any hurry to give one. Rodez come to La Beaujoire next weekend.
