Six spots, four games, and a roster missing its All-Star
Twenty-four wins, sixteen losses. That is where Washington stands with four games left, and it is nowhere near enough to settle anything.
Six playoff seeds, third through eighth, are still unclaimed. The Mystics hold sixth, level with the New York Liberty and the Dallas Wings. Two games back of Atlanta and Indiana. Three back of Las Vegas.
They earned that position late. Three wins in their last four before the break gave them something to build on, which counts for more right now than the record itself.

16.8 points a night, and she is not playing Thursday
Sonia Citron sits out for personal reasons. The guard just made her second All-Star Game and has been putting up 16.8 points and 4.3 assists. Losing her for the restart is no small thing.
Georgia Amoore is a doubt too. Knee.
So the load shifts. Shakira Austin matches Citron at 16.8 points and sits third in the league with 367 total rebounds. Kiki Iriafen chips in 15.3 and 9.4 on the glass, and she, like Citron, came back from the World Cup wearing gold.
“Those are huge moments for players that young,” head coach Sydney Johnson said. His ask for the closing stretch is narrower than any tactical plan: “make sure our old habits are locked in.”
Chicago have nothing to lose, which is the problem
The Sky are 15-25 and eliminated. What is left for them is the spoiler role, and teams in that spot tend to play loose.
Injuries gutted the Illinois roster. Rickea Jackson, their leading scorer at 18.0 a game, was done after four appearances. Skylar Diggins managed 19 games at 14.2.
Kamilla Cardoso (14.8 points, 8.7 rebounds) and rookie Sydney Taylor (13.8) have carried the rest. Chicago dropped three straight into the break. “It has been a tough season,” coach Tyler Marsh said, and the standings back him up.
