Bundesliga: Musiala back in training, Schalke trip not ruled out

Seven to ten days of normal training, and a door left open

Christoph Freund spoke to Sky Sport Germany on Friday and offered the latest on Jamal Musiala. The Bayern Munich sporting director said the signs are encouraging.

“Jamal has been training normally with the team for 7 to 10 days. He is positive and in good spirits. As we have often said, this is not a new situation for him, and he is handling it well,” said the Austrian.

Freund went a step further. “He could be back in the squad tomorrow, we will have to wait and see. He has had a good training week. Jamal and we are optimistic.” Tomorrow, Bayern travel to Schalke 04 in the Bundesliga.

A condition the club has known about since last season

Musiala had already explained his situation on Instagram. The Germany international is dealing with a neurological disorder that causes brief episodes of absence. Bayern later clarified that they had known about the issue since last season.

The club also said a recent change to his treatment had led to side effects. That explains the midfielder’s spell on the sidelines and his absence in the opening matches of the season.

The Bayern staff assess him every day. No firm timetable has been set. Freund’s line stays cautious: the comeback could come tomorrow, or later.

Kane and Olise have kept the machine running

Vincent Kompany’s side did not wait for their No 10 to get their season up and running. Bayern hammered Osnabruck in the German Cup on 2 September, with Harry Kane and Michael Olise both on the scoresheet.

Musiala’s return would still change the attacking picture. A product of Chelsea before moving to Bavaria in 2019, he has become, in just a few seasons, Bayern’s most unpredictable attacking threat, the man who breaks down low blocks when nothing else is working.

Bayern are not about to take any chances. The club have made that clear: the player’s health comes before the fixture list, and his condition will be reviewed day by day.
