“A muscle problem that affects the tendon”
Jose Mourinho met the press this afternoon with Real Sociedad due at the Bernabeu on Wednesday, and Endrick came up again.
No timeline came back. “I can’t tell you that. He has a muscle problem that affects the tendon,” Mourinho said. The Brazilian is still with the medical staff and still without a target date.
The phrasing matters. Muscle damage that reaches the tendon does not clear up over a weekend. Endrick misses Wednesday, and probably a good deal more.

He turned down the offers for him
Mourinho also settled a separate question. Endrick was wanted all summer, and several clubs came knocking at Madrid’s door.
“He is a player I like a lot and he was wanted by many clubs. I wanted him, which is why I didn’t loan him out or sell him,” the coach said.
So the exits were closed on purpose. The problem is that time is not on the forward’s side. Every week spent on the treatment table pushes him further down a rotation that is only just taking shape, and the season is barely two weeks old.
Ancelotti is picking a squad without him
There is a Brazil angle sitting underneath all this. Carlo Ancelotti is naming his group, and Endrick has no guarantee of a place in it.
Mourinho was asked. “I’m not sure he will be picked for Ancelotti’s first squad, but Carlo is a friend and he will call me directly,” he replied. The answer covers his old colleague while stating the obvious: injured players do not get called up.
First things first. Endrick needs to be on a pitch.
