After weeks of brinkmanship, Mostafa Mohamed has finally got his way.
The Egypt striker signed for Konyaspor on Tuesday, on a deal running until June 2029. At 28, he leaves Nantes after their relegation to the second tier, and he made no secret of his feelings: Ligue 2 held no appeal. He pushed to get out, even if it meant souring the mood around the club.
The Turkish side wrapped up the move in the final stretch of the summer window.

Signed in the club museum, wearing 42
It was hardly your usual unveiling. The contract was put on paper inside Konyaspor’s museum, in the stadium itself, with Ali Camgoz, head of the club’s football division, looking on. Mostafa Mohamed takes the number 42 shirt.
The Turkish side also ran through the new arrival’s career: his professional debut at El Dakhlia in Egypt, then spells at Zamalek, Tanta SC, Talaea El Gaish, Galatasaray and finally Nantes.
So this is no shot in the dark. The Egyptian knows the Super Lig well, having already played there with Galatasaray before heading to Loire-Atlantique.
Nantes lose a headache and a No. 9 on the same day
For Nantes, that is one less problem on the desk and one less salary on the books. The standoff had dragged on since the summer and was starting to bite behind the scenes.
What remains is a gap in the penalty area. Nantes begin their Ligue 2 campaign without their most experienced striker, and the window shuts tonight. That leaves very little time to land a replacement.
