French champions, and nowhere to play
Champions of France in the spring. Locked out of the league in August. That is where AS Monaco now stand after the National Basketball League board met on Monday and confirmed Saint-Quentin’s place in Elite, with Fos Provence slotting into the vacated Elite 2 spot. The vote landed a day after the federation’s executive office threw out Monaco’s request to be reinstated among the professional clubs.
The Principality side had already ruled out taking the case to the administrative court, the last door left open to them. The LNB’s financial watchdog blocked their entry. The appeals chamber agreed. So did the CNOSF, which declined to overturn any of it.

One season down, and Saint-Quentin are straight back up
Saint-Quentin finished second from bottom in Elite last season and went down through the promotion-relegation play-offs. Their exile lasted a few months. Monaco’s absence now hands the Picardy club the top-flight place it lost on the court.
The Super Cup gets reshuffled too. Asvel step into Monaco’s slot for the event on 19 and 20 September at Roland Garros, which sets up a semi-final French basketball will not want to miss: Tony Parker’s first official game on the Villeurbanne bench, against his brother TJ, whose Roanne side have just been crowned Elite 2 champions. Paris Basketball face Nanterre in the other last-four tie.
