Ligue 1: Monaco must still sell before Tuesday’s deadline

A sporting director offering no guarantees

Thiago Scuro was at the Europa Conference League draw on Friday. The AS Monaco sporting director left with plenty of questions about the end of the window, and answers that promised very little.

Folarin Balogun came first. “It is possible he stays or goes,” said the Brazilian on Canal+, reminding everyone there are four days left in the market. Asked whether Monaco would sign a replacement if the American striker leaves, he was shorter still: maybe, we’ll see.

The DNCG is behind every word

The real issue came next. Speaking in the mixed zone, Scuro admitted another outgoing deal is needed, and named the reason: the club’s commitment to the DNCG to cut its wage bill.

That changes the whole picture. Monaco are not selling to bankroll arrivals. They are selling to stick to a financial plan agreed with French football’s watchdog. A club that has to sell with four days left is never the one setting the price.

Lamine Camara sums it up. The Senegalese midfielder is drawing interest, and Scuro would not guarantee he stays on the Rock, saying only that he hoped for another season while pointing at the economic reality of French football.

Four days to decide, and the answer is already leaning

ASM come off a European qualifying win against Gornik Zabrze and head into a Conference League league phase. A packed schedule argues for keeping the squad together.

The accounts argue the other way. Between those two demands, the Monaco hierarchy has until Tuesday night.
