Fifty-eight minutes, one corner
Real Salt Lake did not put a single shot on target in Commerce City. That is the number that frames the whole evening.
The Colorado Rapids won it 1-0 through Reggie Cannon in the 58th minute. Youssef Maziz swung an in-swinging corner towards the far post, Cannon ran into the box unmarked, and the header went in. Maziz has two assists in four league appearances this season. On Saturday one was enough.
Colorado keep the Rocky Mountain Cup for a third consecutive season with the win, which also settles a debt from May 16, when Salt Lake beat them 2-1 in Utah.

A goalkeeper with nothing to do
Adam Beaudry played his first minutes of the season for the Rapids and kept a clean sheet without making a save. Colorado have now won five straight home matches, every one of them a shutout, and they are 9-2 this season when they score first.
Rafael Cabral was busier at the other end. The Salt Lake goalkeeper made three saves, two of them in a two-minute spell around the 25th minute. First he pushed away a point-blank header from Georgi Minoungou after Paxten Aaronson’s cross found him at the far post. Then Minoungou ran through the RSL backline and forced a sprawling save with a low shot.
Rafael Navarro should have added a second in the 68th. Aaronson picked him out with a cross-field pass, Navarro took a touch with his left, shifted to his right, and put the shot over the bar.
Salt Lake in free fall
The Rapids finished with 66.3 per cent of the ball and four shots on target. Real Salt Lake gave away 21 fouls to Colorado’s 13 and collected five yellow cards to their hosts’ three, the profile of a team chasing a game it could not reach.
RSL have not won in eight league matches, a run of 0-5-3 that has left them on 28 points, three behind a Colorado side sitting on 31. The gap between the two clubs was one point in May. It reads differently now.
