A summer date that keeps coming back
Charlotte gets the show on Wednesday night. For the fifth time in six years, the MLS All-Stars line up against a Liga MX selection, and the league has taken three of the first four meetings. Bank of America Stadium, home to Charlotte FC, hosts it. MLS wants to bottle some of the energy from the World Cup that just rolled through the United States and turn curious summer crowds into regulars.

Messi stays home, Son leads the line
The biggest name won’t be on the field. Lionel Messi withdrew, pointing to fatigue and recovery after a long World Cup summer. That makes three in a row he has skipped since joining Inter Miami. Rodrigo De Paul drops out too.
So the spotlight shifts. Son Heung-min headlines for MLS, with Nashville’s Hany Mukhtar pulling the strings behind him. Liga MX counters with Omar Campos and Cruz Azul captain Erik Lira.
Friendly, but nobody wants to lose
Dean Smith, in charge of Charlotte and running the All-Star side, set the tone. “There will be a friendly side to it, but these are competitive players. They want to win,” he said. Expect light tactics and plenty of show. Whichever team clicks first usually walks away with it.
