The sixth inning broke it open
The Yankees beat Toronto 8-3 in New York on Sunday, and they did most of the damage in a single inning.
New York opened the sixth with three straight singles. Jazz Chisholm Jr. dropped a bunt to load the bases and chase Jose Soriano. Braydon Fisher came in and recorded two outs. Trent Grisham then took a 3-2 slider low and inside for a go-ahead walk, and Ben Rice lined a slider from Mason Fluharty into right field to score two more and make it 5-2.
Chisholm homered with a runner aboard in the seventh. Grisham homered in the eighth. That is three wins by five runs or more for New York since the All-Star break.

An answer to Saturday
Dylan Cease had held the Yankees hitless for 6 2/3 innings a day earlier. New York responded with double-digit hits, the third time it has done that in five games.
Rookie Spencer Jones doubled in a run in the second and then made a diving catch in right field on Alejandro Kirk’s sinking liner in the sixth. Austin Wells also doubled in a run in the second. The Yankees have taken six of their last seven.
Carlos Rodon worked four innings in his second start back from the injured list and allowed two runs, one earned, on two hits. He threw 76 pitches, twelve of them extra after George Lombard Jr. misplayed Ernie Clement’s grounder at shortstop in the fourth. Paul Blackburn followed with two innings and picked up the win.
Toronto let a lead slip away
Soriano gave up five runs on seven hits in five-plus innings, striking out seven and walking three. Brett Bateman and Daz Cameron lifted sacrifice flies for the Blue Jays, and Kirk singled in a run in the eighth.
Toronto hosts Kansas City on Tuesday to open a three-game series. New York starts a three-game set against Houston on the same day, with Will Warren on the mound.
