Kaelen Culpepper walked off in the seventh inning on Tuesday night and never came back. The Twins have now put a number on it.
Minnesota placed the rookie shortstop on the 10-day injured list on Wednesday with a strain in his left hamstring. He had been pulled from the 8-1 loss to the Yankees the night before, and with the regular season running out, that timeline leaves him almost nothing.
The 23-year-old was the club’s first-round pick in 2024. He reached the majors on August 7 and has hit .275 with three home runs and 11 RBIs across 31 games since.

A season that was going somewhere
Before the call-up, Culpepper spent the year at Triple-A St. Paul and did plenty there. A .271 average, 14 home runs, 46 RBIs and 17 stolen bases in 74 games. The power and the legs both turned up, which is what got him to Minneapolis in the first place.
Six weeks in the big leagues was never going to settle the shortstop question for 2027. It did give the front office something concrete to look at. A hamstring in mid-September takes the rest of that sample away.
Ben Ross gets the call
Minnesota recalled infielder Ben Ross from St. Paul to fill the roster spot. Ross, 25, debuted on September 1 and went 0-for-4 with a run scored and three strikeouts across three games in his first stint with the club.
He walks into a lineup with little left to play for and plenty of innings to hand out.
