A legendary farewell to John Sterling: Yankees crush Baltimore to complete the sweep
The mood at Yankee Stadium was heavy with emotion on Monday night. Before the first pitch, the ballpark fell silent in tribute to John Sterling, the iconic Yankees radio voice, who died at 87. But once the game got going, the Bronx Bombers honoured his memory the best way they knew how: they let the bats do the talking. New York absolutely buried the Orioles 12-1 to complete a four-game sweep that will be talked about for a while. To finish the night, Sterling’s famous call of “Theeeee Yankees win !” rang out over the loudspeakers, a tradition Aaron Judge now wants to see stick around for good.
Aaron Judge: a rocket for “The Voice”
Right from the first inning, Aaron Judge gave Sterling the show he always loved. The captain launched his 14th homer of the season into the right-field bullpen. “As I was rounding the bases, I was thinking about what he’d have shouted into the mic,” Judge said with a grin. It was his 91st career first-inning homer, moving him into striking distance of names like Mickey Mantle and Babe Ruth. With 11 homers in his last 21 games, Judge has officially shut down the noise around his slow start.

Cam Schlittler: pure heat on the mound
On the mound, Cam Schlittler brought the heat, literally. The young starter logged the six fastest pitches of his career, all clocked at over 100.9 mph, topping out at 101.3 mph. At times, he was a little wild – finishing his night in the sixth after issuing a walk with the bases loaded – but his power was enough to smother Baltimore’s attack. Reliever Jake Bird then came in to put out the fire, despite a small lapse when he simply forgot to grab his PitchCom receiver on the way out of the dugout.
Total domination in the AL East
The rest of the game turned into a rout. The Yankees put up six runs in the eighth alone, helped by a Cody Bellinger triple and another RBI hit from Judge. Over the course of the series, New York outscored Baltimore 39-10. With 14 wins in their last 16 games, the Yankees have the best record in the American League. For Judge, every May win like this is a down payment on an October division title. Message received: the freight train is rolling.
