Home run party in Phoenix: White Sox catch fire
Tuesday night at Chase Field, the White Sox turned the Diamondbacks’ park into target practice. In an emphatic 11-5 win, Chicago’s bats came alive, especially in the second inning. Munetaka Murakami, Miguel Vargas and Colson Montgomery went back-to-back-to-back. The franchise had not pulled off that kind of three-homer burst since September 2020. When the weather heats up, Chicago’s hitters seem to wake up too: the club has launched 12 homers over its last four games.
Murakami blows past Ohtani’s marks
Japan’s latest sensation, Munetaka Murakami, is busy rewriting the record books. With a home run in a fourth straight game, he has reached 9 in just 23 MLB games. That’s three more than Shohei Ohtani had at the same stage of his career. Murakami now joins Ohtani and Seiya Suzuki as the only Japan-born players to put together a run of four straight games like this. If he does it again on Wednesday, he’ll match the rookie record in the majors and the franchise mark held by names like Frank Thomas and Paul Konerko.
The Sean Burke slump is finally over
On the mound, Sean Burke could finally throw his arms in the air. The pitcher had gone winless in his last 16 appearances, including 11 starts. Backed by a red-hot lineup, he delivered a solid six-inning outing, allowing just two runs and one walk. It’s a much-needed lift for Burke, who was 0-6 with a 4.28 ERA since his last win last summer.
An attack that spreads fast
For Colson Montgomery, the mood in the clubhouse is everything. “Hits are contagious, and home runs are too,” he said after helping fuel the show. Even without starting catcher Kyle Teel, the White Sox are showing real versatility, blending raw power with smart work on the bases. With this win, Chicago is 3-1 on its first trip out west and is starting to find the kind of consistency that had been missing early in the season.
