Trevino delivers with the bases loaded
Cincinnati loaded the bases in the eighth and handed the job to Jose Trevino. He lined a single to center, Elly De La Cruz came home, and the Reds beat San Diego 4-3 on Tuesday night in Cincinnati.
The rally opened with De La Cruz drawing a walk off Adrian Morejon. Sal Stewart singled to center to put runners at the corners. A groundout followed, then San Diego intentionally walked the light-hitting Matt McLain to load the bases and bring up Trevino, who found the gap.
Juan Brito, making his Reds debut, added a sacrifice fly to left for a second run in the inning. That run mattered an inning later.

Tatis homers twice and still loses
Fernando Tatis Jr. hit his 18th of the season in the fifth, driving a Nick Lodolo sinker over the wall in right to put San Diego 2-1 up. He connected again off Emilio Pagan in the ninth. Pagan still finished it for his 20th save in 23 chances and his 14th in a row.
Brock Burke worked a scoreless eighth for the win and moved to 6-5. Lodolo went six innings and gave up two runs on six hits, with one escape that shaped the night. Jase Bowen tripled to open the third, the Padres loaded the bases with one out, and Ty France grounded into a 6-4-3 double play.
Two teams heading opposite ways
San Diego dropped to 73-66 and has lost four of five. Manny Machado had given them the lead in the first with a sacrifice fly to right that scored Samad Taylor, who tripled off Lodolo with one out. Cincinnati answered in the bottom half against Randy Vasquez, Hector Rodriguez doubling and JJ Bleday singling him home.
Rodriguez struck again in the fifth. Edwin Arroyo hit a ground-rule double to right with two outs, and Rodriguez punched a single to right that Arroyo beat home by a step. Cincinnati sit at 66-73 with nothing left to chase in September, which is how a debutant and a pair of rookies end up deciding a game against a contender.
