MLB – Legendary night in Arlington

Yordan Alvarez tears through the Rangers and eyes a record

The fans at Globe Life Field watched a pure offensive masterclass on Wednesday night. The Arlington dugout had no answer as Houston Astros slugger Yordan Alvarez put on a show for the ages. Launching his 19th and 20th homers of the season, the Cuban powerhouse dragged his side to a tight 4-3 win over the Texas Rangers. The victory leaves the star in a strong position among the leading contenders for the American League MVP award in MLB.

Alvarez joins the MLB greats

The Astros masher clearly loves the Rangers’ home park, where he now has 17 career home runs, the most ever by a visiting player in MLB. By going deep in back-to-back games, he has joined a select group that includes Jose Altuve. If he does it again Thursday night against starter Nathan Eovaldi, he could become the fifth player in MLB history to pull off the feat in three straight games, alongside names like Frank Thomas.

A stroke of genius on a 3-0 count

After striking out once against Jacob deGrom, Alvarez quickly settled in. In the fourth inning, he sent a pitch 428 feet from home plate before doing it again in even more dramatic fashion late in the game. Facing reliever Tyler Alexander with a 3-0 count, the MLB star crushed a slider and sent it 448 feet into the stands. The rocket, timed at more than 110 mph, left everyone watching in MLB speechless.

At the plate, he is giving MLB managers nightmares

The Cuban’s dominance is such that Rangers manager Skip Schumaker admitted he regretted not putting him on intentionally during that decisive at-bat, a move that is often used in MLB when hitters are locked in. With a combined offensive line of .312/.422/.633 and 39 RBIs already this season, Alvarez looks ice-cold every time he steps into the box. That mix of brute force and pitch recognition makes him one of the toughest players to face anywhere in MLB in 2026.
