Four hits, three RBIs, one streak broken
Jeff McNeil collected four hits overnight and the Athletics finally won at home. Oakland beat the Texas Rangers 8-3 in West Sacramento, snapping an eight-game home losing streak and claiming only its fourth win in 19 games.
McNeil struck two doubles, a single and a home run. Both the hit total and the three RBIs marked season highs for him.
Texas dropped a fourth straight and a fifth in six.

The swing that turned it
Carlos Cortes opened the scoring in the first. Kumar Rocker plunked Jacob Wilson with one out, Tyler Soderstrom singled, Zack Gelof walked, and after Lawrence Butler struck out Cortes ripped a bases-clearing double into right-center. Three runs crossed before Texas had recorded a hit.
The Rangers waited until the fifth for their first, an Evan Carter infield single. They answered in the sixth. Corey Seager walked, Ezequiel Duran singled, and Jake Burger drove a full-count fastball 428 feet to left-center for his 20th homer of the season. Level at three.
McNeil settled it in the bottom half. Two outs, Chase Silseth on the mound, and a 400-foot shot to right pushed the A’s ahead 4-3. Butler followed an inning later with a 411-foot drive to center off Robby Ahlstrom, his third home run in three games.
An eighth inning that got away from Texas
Oakland put it out of reach with some help. Tommy White singled as a pinch hitter, Jonah Heim walked, and Henry Bolte dropped a bunt in front of the plate. Catcher Elias Diaz threw wildly to third and White came around to score. McNeil then doubled to right for two more.
Rookie Gage Jump handled 5 1/3 innings and gave up three runs on three hits, walking four and striking out one. Luis Medina followed with 1 1/3 hitless innings and took the win. Rocker went five for Texas, charged with three runs on four hits and five walks.
Wilson left in the second with a left hand contusion, an inning after Rocker’s pitch caught him.
