Jacob Misiorowski got the better of Chris Sale in Milwaukee on Friday night, and the Brewers beat the Atlanta Braves 2-1. The right-hander went six shutout innings, giving up four hits and two walks while striking out six. He’s 13-5 now.
Sale was hardly disgraced. Six innings, two runs, eight hits, six punchouts, no walks. It still wasn’t enough. He drops to 12-9.
Trevor Megill worked around a two-out single in the ninth for save number 24. William Contreras collected four hits and drove in a run. Milwaukee have taken five of six. Atlanta have lost four of five.

Three homers in a row off a pitcher who was cruising
Chicago stunned the Mets 6-4 in a properly wild one. Miguel Vargas, Randal Grichuk and Colson Montgomery went back to back to back in the sixth off Sean Manaea, who until that point had a shutout going. Jake Rogers ended it in the ninth with a two-run walk-off.
Extra innings broke out all over the league. Philadelphia beat St. Louis 7-6 in 10 on Alec Bohm’s two-run triple, a seventh straight win for the Phillies. The Dodgers got past Pittsburgh 5-4, also in 10, on a Tommy Edman single. Seattle edged the Cubs 6-5 at the same stage despite two Alex Bregman homers. And Texas took a 2-1 win over the Angels on a Denzer Guzman throwing error, minutes after Guzman had driven in the game’s opening run.
Devers homers at Fenway. Boston win anyway.
Rafael Devers was back at Fenway for the first time. He hit one out in the fourth. The Red Sox beat the Giants 6-4 regardless, Willson Contreras supplying a three-run shot in a five-run fourth before Boston’s staff allowed nothing over the last 5 1/3. Sonny Gray picked up win number 16 and now sits level with Cristopher Sanchez atop the majors.
Pete Alonso hit his 30th of the season in Baltimore’s 5-3 win over Tampa Bay. Kansas City ran their streak to six against Detroit. Arizona buried Cincinnati 9-0, with Jordan Lawlar posting career highs of three hits and three RBIs on a night nobody in Ohio will want to revisit.
