A 70 when a 70 was enough
Miranda Wang started the final round at TPC Boston chasing somebody else. She finished it holding the FM Championship trophy.
The Chinese golfer signed for a two-under 70 this afternoon in Norton, Massachusetts, reaching 20 under par for the week and beating Jeeno Thitikul by a stroke. Her card reads 66, 67, 65, 70. The 65 on Saturday put her in the argument. The 70 ended it.
Ruoning Yin had gone to bed on Saturday night as the 54-hole leader, having chipped in for birdie on her closing hole to move to the top of the board. That lead did not survive the last eighteen.

Thitikul a stroke short
Thitikul finished on 19 under and spent the afternoon within range without ever drawing level. Sei Young Kim took third at 17 under. Andrea Lee was the leading American in fourth on 16 under, four adrift of the winner.
Behind them the board bunched up fast. Rose Zhang was among those sharing fifth at 15 under, with a four-way tie for seventh a further two shots back. Scoring at TPC Boston stayed low all week, which is why 268 strokes was what it took to win. Allisen Corpuz had shared the lead at halfway on nine-under 135 after a bogey-free Friday, one of several players who spent time at the front before Wang settled things.
The margin looks tight on paper. It was built over three days rather than one, which is a different kind of win from the ones that turn on a single putt.
What the win is worth
Victory carries 500 points in the Race to CME Globe. Thitikul banked 320, Kim 230 and Lee 180. Those numbers read differently at the end of August than they did in the spring, with the season now heading into its closing stretch and the top of the standings still unsettled.
Wang leaves Massachusetts with the trophy. The points are the part that will still matter in November.
