A record price in a private deal
Michael Jordan’s game-worn jersey from Game 2 of the 1998 NBA Finals has sold for $14 million, a record for the piece. Hunt Auctions announced the sale today. It was not an auction. The jersey went through a private sale to Miami real estate investor Ron Firman.
The price puts a single game-worn shirt in territory usually reserved for major artworks, and the seller is leaning on exactly that comparison.

What the seller says it means
David Hunt, president of Hunt Auctions, framed the deal as proof of Jordan’s reach. He called it “yet another corroborative result as to the significance of Jordan within the industry and popular culture.”
Hunt went further on the asset itself, describing the jersey as “an elite asset class more typically reserved for iconic works of art.” That is the pitch collectors now hear for the top end of the market.
The 1998 Finals was Jordan’s last with the Chicago Bulls, which is why jerseys from that series carry such a premium.
