La Liga: Mbappé’s late strike sinks Barça at Camp Nou

Mbappé decides a tense Clásico

Real Madrid left the Camp Nou with a 2-1 win on Sunday night, and Kylian Mbappé scored both goals. The second came three minutes from time, after Eduardo Camavinga cut the ball back from the byline following a flash of skill from Jude Bellingham. It was Real’s first win in Barcelona in three years.

Mbappé had opened the scoring in the 41st minute. Diomande crossed, the ball took a deflection off Barça’s Gerard Martin and looped in. He had already hit the bar with a scissor kick in the 33rd, and Bellingham failed to find him on a two-on-one early in the second half.

Raphinha’s reply was not enough

Barcelona got level in the 61st minute. Pedri slipped the ball to Raphinha, who snapped a shot past Andriy Lunin in the Real goal. Lunin then saved a Martin header from a corner, and Lamine Yamal dragged an effort just wide in the 78th. Barça pushed, but Camavinga’s cutback left them exposed.

Jose Mourinho celebrated the winner by sliding across the turf on his knees. After the final goal, Real players also clashed with Barcelona supporters behind the goal.

What it means in the table

Barcelona stay top of La Liga as defending champions, but the gap has shrunk. Real sit three points behind them, with Atlético Madrid second, two points off the leaders. Barça arrived having lost at Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League the week before, ending an 11-game winning run to start the season.
