Bowles gives the green light
Baker Mayfield is coming back. Tampa Bay coach Todd Bowles said Friday that his quarterback “looks like he’s ready to go” and is expected to start Sunday at Carolina.
Mayfield has missed three games with a dislocated thumb, injured in a 23-16 loss to the Minnesota Vikings on Sept. 27. He is still listed as questionable, even after three straight days as a full practice participant. He will wear a glove on his right throwing hand.

Rookie Daniels held the fort
Undrafted rookie Jalon Daniels has started the last three games. Counting his relief appearance in Week 3, he has completed 61.2% of his passes for 501 yards, three touchdowns and five interceptions. Mayfield’s own line this season is 615 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions across three games.
The Buccaneers are 1-5, and the quarterback swap arrives with the season already in trouble.
Injuries elsewhere
Bowles also ruled out three starters. Receiver Emeka Egbuka (concussion, foot), right tackle Luke Goedeke (calf) and safety Antoine Winfield Jr. (rib) will not play. A Mayfield with fewer weapons and a patched offensive line is the version Tampa Bay will bring to Carolina.
