The number worth keeping is 14. That is how many series Tampa Bay have swept this season, more than anyone in baseball. Taking all three games of a set over and over across five months is not something most rosters can sustain, and it has become this club’s whole identity in 2026.

A shoulder, a wall, and two runs San Diego never meant to give up
The Padres led 3-1 going to the ninth with Mason Miller warm. Their best arm. Two outs in, Jonny DeLuca hooked one down the left-field line and Taylor got there. He caught it. Then his shoulder caught the low wall, the ball came loose, and it carried over the fence for a two-run homer.
The rule is not complicated. No completed catch, no catch. San Diego lost two runs to a couple of inches and then lost the game they had already won.
Rasmussen and Ray both deserved better
Drew Rasmussen gave Tampa Bay six innings, four hits, two runs. Robbie Ray went one better for the Padres, six innings, three hits, a single run. Neither got a decision. The thing was decided two hours later by a play that had nothing to do with either of them.
San Diego fly home having handed over three games in three days. Tampa Bay just keep collecting them.
