Seven minutes to midnight
The statement dropped seven minutes before the Spanish transfer window shut. Marc Casado has gone on loan to Deportivo La Coruna. A straight loan. No buy option. Job done until June 30, 2027.
Barca confirmed the deal with the Galician club themselves. Two lines, a photo and a good-luck message. The standard send-off for a player they are happy to let go.
Casado is 22. Two seasons ago, he was being talked up as the next one through the Catalan midfield.

A pecking order that has closed up
The issue was never talent. It was minutes. Hansi Flick did not count on him this season, and Barca could offer little more than cameos off the bench.
For a 22-year-old midfielder, a blank year can cost plenty. The maths is simple: better 30 starts somewhere else than seventh-choice status at Camp Nou. Club and player reached that conclusion in the final hours of deadline day.
Once the principle was agreed, it did not take long.
Deportivo get their man
In La Coruna, the picture is different. The club came back up to La Liga last spring after years away from the top flight. It needed some midfield quality to avoid being dragged around every weekend.
Casado arrives with the Barca badge on his CV and real top-level experience despite his age. He should go straight into the side, which changes things for a newly promoted team looking to survive from day one.
Deportivo have landed a regular starter without paying a transfer fee. Barcelona keep hold of his future. On paper, everybody wins.
