Six weeks unbeaten, then this
Team Liquid arrived at Sunday’s closing match of Week 6 needing one win to put the LCS Summer Split top seed out of reach. LYON took the series 2-0 instead, in 30 minutes and then 27.
That is Liquid’s first defeat in six outings. It also hands LYON a share of first place at 5-1, and LYON hold the better map record at 11-2 against Liquid’s 10-3. The column that decides tight finishes now leans away from the team that spent five weeks alone at the top.
Kim “Berserker” Min-cheol did the damage, closing the series with a 12/3/18 kill-death-assist line. Australian Jonah “Isles” Rosario finished with 32 assists, more than any player on either roster. Jo “CoreJJ” Yong-in led Liquid with 12.

Cloud9 climb behind them
The day’s other match went the distance. Cloud9 opened with a 30-minute win, Shopify Rebellion drew level in 36, and Cloud9 closed it out in another 36.
Lee “Loki” Sang-min posted 17/4/18 for Cloud9. Park “Thanatos” Seung-gyu went 3/4/26 in a support role, and Canadian Philippe “Vulcan” Laflamme piled up 36 assists. Ju “Bvoy” Yeong-hoon topped Shopify Rebellion with eight kills.
That result lifts Cloud9 level with Sentinels at 4-2. Shopify Rebellion sit fifth on 3-3, FlyQuest sixth at 2-4, Disguised seventh at 1-5. Dignitas have still not won a match at 0-6.
What the last week decides
The eight-team round robin opened on July 25 and wraps up next weekend. First and second go straight to the playoff semifinals. Third through sixth take the longer route through the quarter-finals. Seventh and eighth go home.
Liquid face Dignitas on Saturday. LYON meet Disguised on Sunday. Neither fixture reads as an obstacle on current form, which leaves two teams likely to finish level and a first seed still unsettled.
Playoffs run September 12 to October 4, best-of-five and double elimination. Three teams come out of that bracket and into the World Championship, which moves between New York, Los Angeles and Allen, Texas, from October 15 to November 14.
Liquid have five weeks of evidence saying they are the better team across a season. LYON have Sunday.
