635 yards, and it was never close
Louisville threw the first heavy punch, took one back, then stopped taking them. The Cardinals beat Villanova 59-13 at home on Friday night with 635 yards of offence against their visitors’ 253.
Lincoln Kienholz did most of the work. The quarterback passed for 332 yards, threw two touchdowns and ran for two more. His first came with 4:33 left in the opening quarter, when he slipped out of the Villanova rush and scrambled 19 yards to make it 10-3.

Big plays traded, then abandoned
The first half turned into a sequence of long strikes. Jaleel Skinner took a short pass in the flat and ran 69 yards down the sideline with 14 seconds left in the first quarter for 17-3. Villanova answered two plays later, Pat McQuaide finding Ja’briel Mace for 65 yards on the opening snap of the second quarter to close it to 17-10.
Louisville needed two plays to reply. Kienholz floated one up for Lawayne McCoy, who beat his defender and went 61 yards. McCoy finished with 102 yards from three catches, Tre Richardson had seven grabs for 98, Skinner 82 and a score.
Kienholz’s second rushing touchdown, from four yards, capped a 10-play, 85-yard drive and made it 31-10 with 1:53 on the clock before the break.
The second half was paperwork
Braxton Jennings ran in from 15 yards at the 7:50 mark of the third quarter. Marquise Davis added a three-yard score with seven seconds left in the same period, then plunged in from four yards with 7:04 remaining. In between, backup Davin Wydner threw a two-yard touchdown to Jennings.
McQuaide went 18 of 31 for 166 yards and that one touchdown. Mace’s 65-yarder and 73 receiving yards were about all Villanova produced, and the Wildcats fall to 1-2.
Louisville move to 1-1, seven days on from a 41-38 defeat by Ole Miss in their opener. They crossed the goal line eight times in this one.
