A left winger, and fast
Lorient had a hole down its left side. It is starting to get plugged.
According to Foot Mercato, Les Merlus have reached an agreement with AZ Alkmaar for Isak Jensen. The 22-year-old Danish winger is due to undergo a medical on Sunday. The deal would be a loan with an option to buy.
Nothing has been signed yet. The various parties are still working to tie up the paperwork. But the player has clearly got his head out of the Netherlands.
Try it for $0.99.
Seven goals, eight assists, 55 matches
Jensen arrived at AZ in the summer of 2025. A year and a half later, he has 7 goals and 8 assists in 55 appearances in all competitions. It’s not star stuff. It’s the kind of output you get from a player who actually gets on the pitch.
His contract in Alkmaar runs until June 2030 and his market value is around 5 million euros. In other words, AZ didn’t have to sell. Hence the loan.
The Dane stands 1.86m tall and has 10 caps for the Under-21s, with one goal. A direct runner on the left flank, exactly what the Lorient coach has been missing since the restart.
A loan-driven window for Les Merlus
Lorient doesn’t have the money to do much else. The Breton club is also working on a loan deal for a young Napoli player, following the same logic: borrow potential rather than buy the finished article.
It works, right up until the day the option fees have to be paid. Then the bills land all at once.
For now, the Morbihan side will take it. A 22-year-old winger with Eredivisie experience is better than nothing with the market set to shut in 10 days.
