Two plays, 65 yards, 7-0
LJ Martin got bottled up at the line on BYU’s second snap. He bounced outside, broke two tackles and ran 56 yards to the end zone. The Cougars led inside the opening two minutes on Saturday in Fort Collins and went on to beat Colorado State 41-23.
Martin finished with 176 rushing yards and three touchdowns. Bear Bachmeier completed 12 of 16 passes for 227 yards with one interception. BYU outgained the Rams 559-302 and moved to 3-0.
Freshman receiver Legend Glasker was the other problem Colorado State could not solve. He caught five passes for 131 yards, including a one-handed grab over his shoulder on a 70-yard throw, and scored on an end-around.

The Rams answered once, then lost their quarterback
Hauss Hejny tied the game at 7-7 with a 7-yard touchdown pass to RJ Vick Jr. with 11:22 left in the first quarter. He left the field later in that quarter with a hamstring injury after going 6 of 10 for 80 yards.
Backup K’saan Farrar threw for 70 yards and an interception. Third-string quarterback Darius Curry also managed 70 yards and a touchdown. Colorado State drop to 2-1.
BYU took control while the Rams shuffled arms. Glasker’s long catch set up Martin’s 2-yard plunge at 9:42 of the first for a 14-7 lead. Martin broke more tackles on an 8-yard run with 51 seconds left in the quarter to make it 21-7. Mathias Dunn added a 44-yard field goal, and Glasker’s 5-yard run pushed the halftime score to 31-7.
Garbage time did the rest
Preston Rex walked into the end zone untouched from five yards with 9:29 left in the third for a 38-7 lead. Durell Robinson ran in a 1-yard score and Nader Chirchi caught a 1-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter to trim a margin that was never in doubt.
The Cougars have now won three in a row to open the season, and they have done it on the ground. Martin is doing the heavy work.
