Ligue 1: Kvaratskhelia has ACL surgery in Doha

Surgery done, rehab starts

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia is under the knife and out the other side. Paris Saint-Germain said Tuesday that the winger underwent successful surgery on a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee at the Aspetar hospital in Doha, Qatar. The club says he now begins rehabilitation.

The 25-year-old Georgian hurt the knee in the Champions League clash with Barcelona on October 20, a game PSG won 4-2. He went down awkwardly, twisted the joint and could not put weight on his right leg as he was helped off after 59 minutes. A tear of this kind normally keeps a player out for six to ten months. Kvaratskhelia joined the club in January 2025 and is under contract until June 2029.

A costly night for PSG

The Barcelona win came at a price beyond one knee. Marquinhos (right thigh) and Ousmane Dembélé (left thigh) also left the pitch injured and will miss several weeks, though both diagnoses are far lighter than the Georgian’s.

Kvaratskhelia found out where he stood in the Ballon d’Or voting from a hospital bed. He broke into the top ten for the first time, finishing sixth, between Lionel Messi and Dembélé, last year’s winner.

Don’t expect a replacement. Asked at a press conference whether PSG would sign someone, Luis Enrique said they were not specifically planning to recruit.
