A reunion on hold
Kelsey Plum will not face the Los Angeles Sparks on Tuesday. Phoenix listed the guard as out on Monday’s injury report with a lower left leg problem, the same area that had already cost her a large slice of the season. The timing bites, because the Sparks are the club that shipped her out earlier this month.

Calf trouble returns
Plum tightened up during Sunday’s loss to the Washington Mystics, an issue the team described as left calf tightness when she left the floor. This is familiar ground. She had already missed close to six weeks earlier in the year with a lower left leg injury and only made her Mercury debut on Aug. 3. Four games into her Phoenix run, the leg has flared again.
The numbers behind the trade
Phoenix landed the five-time All-Star from Los Angeles before the deadline, sending Monique Akoa Makani, a 2027 first-round pick and a 2028 second-rounder the other way. The price matched the output. Across 16 games this season Plum has averaged 22.3 points, a figure that would rank third in the WNBA had she logged enough minutes to qualify for the leaderboard. In her four appearances for the Mercury she sits at 17.3 points and 3.3 assists per game. Phoenix now visits her former building without its leading scorer, on the one night it would have wanted her most.
