Four drives, four touchdowns
5:51 on the clock. One yard to go. Josh Allen put his head down and scored the first touchdown in the history of the new Highmark Stadium.
Everything after that looked rehearsed. Buffalo found the end zone on each of their opening four possessions against Detroit. A 43-yard throw to Josh Palmer, who had been left alone. Then the tight ends took over, Dalton Kincaid from 16 and Dawson Knox from a yard out. It was 21-0 early in the second quarter, 27-10 at the half, with 299 yards already banked.
Allen’s line: 20 of 31 for 248 yards, another 72 on the ground, three passing scores and two rushing. Five in a night, the fourth time he has managed it. He threw four in Houston a week ago.

Detroit got it back to ten, then ran out of road
The Lions did not fold at 21-0. They chipped away until the scoreboard read 34-24. Jared Goff threw for 327 yards and four touchdowns. Amon-Ra St. Brown caught nine for 142 and scored twice. Jahmyr Gibbs took an 11-yard pass in for another. St. Brown and Gibbs are now up to 22 combined touchdowns, matching the Paul Warfield and Leroy Kelly mark that sits fourth all-time for a teammate duo.
Then the drive that killed it. Midway through the fourth, Detroit started on their own 10. Deone Walker got a hand on two Goff throws. Gibbs was stopped for nothing. Three plays, punt. James Cook, who already had 134 rushing yards, walked in from a yard out with 2:50 on the clock.
A $2.1 billion building and two more entries in the record book
The stadium opened last month, across the street from the old one. Some people around Buffalo have started calling it the house Allen built, which is the kind of line that sticks after a night like this.
His two scoring runs pushed his career total to 83 rushing touchdowns, level with Jim Taylor for 18th in league history. It was also win number 90 in the regular season. Four quarterbacks have reached that inside nine seasons.
Detroit played without starting linemen Blake Miller and Christian Mahogany. Buffalo lost Ed Oliver in warm-ups and DJ Moore during the game. These two meet again on 27 September.
