Five down after two innings, and it did not matter
Cleveland were 5-0 behind before the third inning started in Anaheim. They won 8-6 in ten.
Jose Ramirez doubled three times and drove in five, the last two on a one-out drive into the left-centre gap in the tenth off Blake Weiman. Brayan Rocchio came home as the automatic runner, Steven Kwan followed him, and the Guardians had a sixth straight win.
Kwan matched a career high with five hits in five at-bats, adding a walk, an RBI and three runs scored. The only other time he managed five hits in a game was on 10 April 2022, against Kansas City. Patrick Bailey drew four walks and came round to score.

Two Grissom homers were not enough
Vaughn Grissom hit both of his home runs off Cleveland pitching and drove in three. The first landed with two outs in the opening inning, a 389-foot shot that stayed just inside the left-field foul pole after Mike Trout had singled. Christian Moore led off the second with his first home run of the year, another 389-foot drive to left.
The Angels kept the inning alive after that. Gustavo Campero singled and was pulled while advancing on a wild pitch, apparently hurt. Pinch runner Jose Siri scored on a Denzer Guzman double. Adam Frazier moved Guzman to third with a sacrifice and Zach Neto brought him in. Gavin Williams was out of the game, and Cleveland were five behind.
Chipped away, inning by inning
Travis Bazzana opened the response in the fourth with an RBI double into right-centre, and Ramirez followed with a two-run double. Rocchio and Kwan hit back-to-back RBI singles in the fifth to level it. Grissom’s second homer, his ninth of the season, put the Angels back in front an inning later. Ramirez tied it again in the eighth after another Kwan single.
Erik Sabrowski struck out the side in the ninth to hold it there. Cade Smith worked a scoreless tenth for his 35th save. Los Angeles have now lost three in a row.
