A 12 M€ option attached
Jordan James is on the move again. Stade Rennais confirmed this morning that the Welsh midfielder has joined Wolverhampton on a season-long loan. The deal also includes an option to buy, believed to be worth 12 M€.
The English club are coming off a miserable season. Relegated from the Premier League in the spring, Wolverhampton head into the Championship. James already knows the division well. He spent last season there on loan at Leicester.
Rennes paid tribute to their player on social media: “A Dragon among the Wolves. Loaned to Wolverhampton, Jordan James will be back in the Championship. Best of luck for the season, JJ.”

Two years in Brittany, never a regular
Rennes spent 5 M€ on him two years ago when they brought him in from Birmingham. It never quite worked out. At 22, the Welshman never managed to nail down a regular place in the Brittany squad. His contract still runs until 2028.
The loan suits both sides. James gets back to a league he knows and has already played in. Rennes trim their wage bill without giving away a player still valued at 12 M€.
The clear-out continues at Roazhon Park
This departure is part of a wider overhaul. Rennes have been cutting their squad since the start of the summer and are still looking for solutions for players they no longer need.
The transfer window closes in less than two weeks. More movement is expected in Brittany before then.
