Jodar pulls off a statement win in Washington
Rafael Jodar is 19. He will play in his first ATP 500 final. The Spaniard beat Alejandro Tabilo in yesterday’s Washington semi-final: 6-7(5), 6-4, 6-4.
Down after the opening set, he never blinked. He raised his level when it mattered most. The win lifts him to world No. 15, a new high point in a career that is still only just getting started.
Jodar is now the third Spaniard to reach the tournament final, after Alex Corretja in 2000 and Alejandro Davidovich Fokina last year.

To reach the last four, Jodar took down some serious names. Lorenzo Musetti, Kei Nishikori and Arthur Fils all fell by the wayside, beaten by a player who is still not even 20.
His season backs up the hype. He won in Marrakech, reached the semi-finals in Barcelona and made the quarter-finals at Roland Garros, Madrid and Rome. He is moving fast and showing no sign of slowing down.
