Chelsea locks down its No. 9
Chelsea announced this morning that Joao Pedro has signed a new deal. The Brazilian is now tied to the Blues until 2034. Eight years on the contract. That length says plenty about where the London club sees its striker in the pecking order.
Barcelona had been tracking the situation for months. The Catalans have come away empty-handed. Chelsea barely gave the story time to breathe.
The player responded in the official statement. “I am very happy to sign a new contract with Chelsea. I have always dreamed of playing for a big club, and it is very important for me to commit long term to this club. Chelsea has a long tradition of winning and big ambitions for the future,” said the Brazilian.

Twenty goals and a Player of the Season award
Joao Pedro joined Stamford Bridge in July 2025. He settled quickly. He scored in the semi-final, then again in the Club World Cup final. Chelsea lifted the trophy.
He then made his mark on the European stage. A brace against Napoli in the Champions League, which the club was quick to mention in its own statement.
His first season boils down to one number: 20 goals for the Blues. Enough to be named Player of the Season by a landslide. Enough, too, to reclaim the No. 9 shirt, a jersey Chelsea have long struggled to make work.
One less headache for the board
The club has secured its main attacking focal point just days before the season resumes. On the market, the message is clear: the Brazilian striker is not for sale, and his price has just shot up automatically.
Chelsea still have a few attacking issues to sort out. The club is still waiting on an offer of 75 million euros for one unwanted player. Joao Pedro’s file, though, is closed for a long time.
