NFL: Jets’ Stiggers stable after collapsing at practice

A frightening afternoon in Rutherford

The Jets got a scare on Tuesday. Cornerback Qwan’tez Stiggers collapsed on the sideline during a joint practice with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and was taken away in an ambulance. Teammates crowded around him as he received IV fluids on the field.

The early word, at least, was reassuring. “He came to the sideline after a play and he actually fell out,” coach Aaron Glenn told reporters. “The good thing is he was conscious. He was able to talk. For the most part, he’s good.”

Glenn credits the medical staff

Glenn said he would head to the hospital to see the 24-year-old later in the afternoon, and he made a point of thanking the people who reacted first. “Our guys did a hell of a job. They took the necessary steps just to make sure that we do everything we can to be on board when it comes to those situations,” he said.

The session itself had been tense, with reports of several fights breaking out between the two teams. New York hosts Tampa Bay in its preseason opener on Friday at MetLife Stadium.

Who is Stiggers

Stiggers arrived as a fifth-round pick in 2024 and has carved out a role across all three phases. He owns 35 tackles, three passes defensed and two fumble recoveries in 29 games with five starts, having logged 297 snaps on defense and 503 on special teams. Whether he features Friday now depends on what the hospital visit turns up.
