Las Vegas put up 25 points in the first quarter overnight in Seattle. Jackie Young scored 22 of them.
Stephanie Talbot opened the scoring with a three. After that the ball barely found anyone else. Young went 8 of 9 from the field in those ten minutes, 3 of 4 from behind the arc, 3 of 3 at the line, and finished the quarter with a step-back three with two seconds showing. Aces 25, Storm 13.
Twenty-two points in a quarter is the WNBA record. Diana Taurasi set it for Phoenix in 2006. Brittney Sykes matched it for Atlanta in 2019, Jewell Loyd for Seattle in 2021. Young is the fourth name on that list.

Nineteen days off, no rust
The Aces had not played a competitive game since the league paused for the FIBA Women’s World Cup, a 19-day gap. Young spent part of it winning the thing with Team USA. She came back and needed one quarter to look like she had never stopped.
She sat the opening 3:10 of the second quarter and added only two points in the period, both free throws with 1:17 left. Las Vegas led 52-34 at the break anyway. Seven more points in the first 4:15 of the third carried her past her previous career high of 34, and the Aces took an 85-63 lead into the fourth. Final score 114-77.
A’ja Wilson finished with 29 points, seven rebounds and five assists. Dana Evans and Kalani Brown scored 10 apiece off the bench. Las Vegas shot 58 percent, 40 of 69, and hit 13 of its 28 attempts from three.
Seattle keep leaning on rookies
Flau’jae Johnson scored 25 for the Storm, who dropped to 8-33. Natisha Hiedeman came back from a four-game absence with a shoulder problem and added 12 points and seven assists. Stefanie Dolson scored 11 off the bench, Dominique Malonga 10 points with six rebounds. Seattle shot 38 percent and made 8 of 27 from long range.
Las Vegas sit at 28-13 with three games left before the playoffs. One of them is a rematch with Seattle, on Sunday, this time in Nevada.
