A contract with a date on it
Mario Hezonja has been in Cleveland for six games, and his one-year deal already has a clock attached. If he is still on the Cavaliers’ roster after November 15, the money becomes fully guaranteed. Given how the early weeks have gone, that looks like a formality.
Hezonja is averaging 17.8 minutes off the bench for Kenny Atkinson. He is putting up 7.5 points, 5.2 rebounds and 2.0 assists a night, and Cleveland sits at 4-2.
no renewal
Free for 2 weeks.
“In Kenny’s hands”
Asked about the challenge of fitting into the rotation, the Croatian forward said it relaxes him mentally, if not competitively on the court. He was clear about where he thinks his NBA future sits. In his words, his whole career now is in the hands of the head coach, the staff and his teammates, and he thanked them for making him comfortable. The comments were reported by EuroHoops.net and picked up by HoopsHype on Monday.
That is a player who knows the guarantee date and is not pretending otherwise. Six games is a small sample, but a steady bench big who rebounds and passes is the kind of piece a 4-2 team tends to keep.
